In 1835, the John Fulton family arrived from New York before to develop a community that would eventually be known as Tinley Park. Many Germans immigrants moved into the area during the 1840’s, and by 1852, the Rock Island and Pacific Trains were constructed passing through the settlement.

The area began to develop into an agricultural community. By 1869, a grain elevator was constructed, and in 1872, a Dutch-style windmill became an important part of the agriculture in the area. After World War II, affordable housing in Tinley Park attracted young couples to the area.

An outdoor music venue opened in Tinley Park in 1990. Although it has changed names multiple times, the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre brings music festivals and live music to Tinley Park all summer.
